Not to pick, of course, since I think it's a wonderful idea, but do you think you could change the description of the folder to include the letter "T" in the first word.

Could you please seperate Arthe Dale into its own folder? We tend to think of ourselves as much a city as Crossing is. We are an active city with a working Government <sorta> <hums> And I'd prefer to post in a folder for Arthe Dale discussions about our town to be discussed by residence of Arthe Dale, not by residence of all these other silly places.

I am the head of a dwarven social group and we have discussed improvements we'd like to see to Stone Clan. We are very dedicated to it and wish to see it become more livable. If you would please consider the following additions

A Bank - To allow us to conduct commerce

Player Homes - To allow us to truely live there

A Forge - So that we may learn to be what many of us wish to roleplay. Dwarven Forgers

A General goods store - Filled with some nice Dwarven Roleplaying items

Thank you.

It WAS called Darkstone before its collapse and ruin. then they stuck a more appropriate name to it: Dirge.

So before it was called 'sad song', it was called 'evil rock'.

Yes yes, its all very disturbing. <g>

And from you talking to your attendant (ps: im so much gladder you used it in moderation last time, instead of having him fetch you water ever 10 minutes) to whispering under your breath, "Darkstone..", you had me (and Pureblade) convinced you were just going insane again. <g>

Heyo everyone,

First off, yes it was a royal decree from the Prince.

Secondly, anyone wishing to join and help with the council will be accepted, only requirement is that you remain IC at all times. You can offer your help at the town meeting on Monday...I still have to get the time and where in Dirge from the rest of the council. I'll post that info when I get it, probably Friday night sometime.

Thirdly, we will be taking submissions for a new name...DISCLAIMER: Just because we all end up choosing a different name for the city doesn't mean all the names on the room descriptions, buildings, ect. will be changed anytime soon, if at all. All we can do with the choice is bug the GMs same way everyone else does and hope.

Lastly, any other suggestions you have will be listened to by the council at the town meeting. All we ask is that your civil and stay somewhat quiet.

Thank you everyone,

Bryan, Player of Mordiazi

Welcome Melusina!

May I direct your attention to the Halfling folder, under Eleven Races <g>. We don't post a ton, so you can read the roughly 80-90 messages and get totally caught up. There is a post called Olvi Politics which spells it out pretty good I think.

We stopped posting in this folder when they took away the Arthe Dale folder and gave us "Northern Townships". Which as it turns out was fine by me, because it actually divided us when we didn't know whether to post on the Halfling board or the Arthe Dale board.

As I told Flori, who posted a similar question earlier today on the Halfling boards, I'm available in-game for rp'ing, I live and hang out in Arthe. Gweth or just keep an eye out for me, I'm constantly roaming around Arthe and Crossing. Or if you have OOG concerns, feel free to email me at arthedale@email.com.

Heyo everyone,

Mordiazi is visiting his parents and won't be around for about a month or so. Selthanos is now taking Mord's duties until he gets back.

I am moving from TX to upstate NY, so the computer is all packed up. I have some very limited internet access to expect me to pop on and try to find out information about whats going on.

There are a whole bunch of positions open on the council now due to an expansion. We are trying to get as many PC's as possible involved. If you would like your character to join the council just have them search for Selthanos and ask him about it. If your character can't find him, you can e-mail me at BPalu10183@aol.com , please be aware that those e-mails will be answered slowly due to the limited access.

Thanks,

You get a ride down to the bottom. The catch is, ya gotta control the cart using the handbrake and leaning into the curves; ya run the risk of an accident if ya botch it. If ya take it slow, though, it's not that bad a ride, and sure beats all the falling down on the way up.

I never used the handbrake, (didn't realize there was one), just leaned into the curves. Never crashed yet so don't know how beat up ya get from it.

Gonna have to take a newbie out there an have em ride it without any directions and see how a crash works, (since all me good friends have tried it).

Anyway its an amusing thing to do if ye happen to be in that area.

I am finally back and able to play DR. I have missed the game greatly. I would have been back a couple of weeks ago but due to a strike at Verizon(was Bell Atlantic), it took two weeks to get my phone line turned on.

There should be a meeting of the council within the next two weeks, just need to speak with the other council members first. I hope that all of you who wish to get their characters involved will be able to attend.

Thanks a bunch,

Hello everyone,

The Council of Dirge now meets every Thursday at 8pm eastern. If you think you have a character that would be interested in joining this royally appointed council, just have them stop in during one of the meetings.

The meetings take place within the standing stone after climbing the rocks by the weapon and armor shop.

We have these positions still open on the council.

Human rep, Dwarf rep, Elothean rep, Rakash rep, and Prydaen rep.

These reps, advise the council on their races point of view and let the council know what the general feeling of that race on all issues. Each rep has a vote on all council actions and may speak without being recognized by the Voice or Council Herald. The only requirement for your character is that they remain IC at all times.

Some other news...There will be a festival taking place on the 30th of September, involving games, two auctions, a place for people to sell their forged weapons and armor(plus take orders for the future). It will start with a prayer vigil and end with plays/performances by various bards and bardic troupes.

All forgers contact Mordiazi in game to ask about an area that can be set aside for them. I am trying to get booths for each forger but that takes GM intervention and god knows they are busy enough as it is.

Also, Bards, if you don't win the Limerick contest during Bard's night, don't fret....try your luck out during the contest during the fest, alot of nice prizes will be given away.

More details will be forthcoming once we solidify the festivals schedule.

Thank you for your time,

Bryan, player of Mordiazi

I want to direct you guys to a post/series of posts I made in the player/community events folder.

Plus, I want to give some specific Thank yous, not in any order...

To Aergrie for dealing with running back and forth to Crossings to give away the items and collecting the coin from the auctions...not to mention running the Gem game and donating some beautiful things for prizes and the auction...she has been on the council from its beginnings in Leth Deriel and has been a cornerstone.

To Lilathe who is always there to help. She helped shape the festival along with doing the Race to the Greater Fist...she was the one on top! And for donating some wonderful items for prizes and auction.

To Starsha, who put together a great prayer vigil, did the Kissing game and helped shape the festival.

To Ravidel, who went out of his way to run the item auction, get more people involved and still did his duties as General during the invasion.

To Tetriana, who always comes up with a way to make things better. Just her presence makes me happy.

To Marietta, who never ceases to amaze me. Donated some items, did both the kissing game and the Race and did a lot of work on the auctions.

To Pureblade for your wit, and willingness to help whenever you're needed.

To Odiin, for donating such wonderful items and coming up with the idea for the race. It was a hit.

To Selthanos, for being a trusted friend and advisor. He donated a lot of awesome items and helped out where he could.

To Blasword, who even though he isn't a part of the Council, still helps out where ever he sees it.

To Killmic, for being the hysterical character he is and spreading the news about the festival to everyone.

To Jadiandra, you were the first one to join Mordiazi in this event and I have the feeling you'll be the last one to leave when it's all over.

To Seraana, though you have been really busy lately. You made us have this festival. Not to mention all the other stuff you have done for us over your time with us.

To Amras, for putting together such a kick arse guard. And being kind enough to let us auction you off.

Thank you to the DR staff who put together such a great game and help all player run events out as much as you can!

Last but not least, to all the PC's who came up and took part. I hope you had a ton of fun.

If I missed anyone I am really really sorry. As you probably noticed, the farther into the post I got, the shorter the entries, that has something to do with my drooping eyelids.

Hey, board monitors...think Dirge could get it's own board? We'll probably only post once or twice a month on it as needed. I don't know if that is good enough to constitute our own board.

Thanks,

Bryan

Greetings friends and fellow residents of our wonderful town. At first glance, we do seem like a small place, but venturing into our residential area we have more residents than many other areas, and I'm surprised we still have no real community action of our own, and I firmly believe that together we'd make just as strong a community as any other town, if not stronger. Kaerna has been my home ever since I journeyed into the realms long ago, and I would be overjoyed to continue to see it grow and prosper.I leave this message here today to inquire whether there be any interest in events such as community gatherings and a militia for the defense of our Village, as Savrin and Grek, thought mighty, can't do it all. So if there be any interest in this by my many neighbors, please post a note back here and let me know. May Damaris guide your paths, and Hodierna illume them.

there are a number of shops in dirge that have gone unfinished for too long.

for instance, there is a locksmith's there. does he sell wares? no.

there should also be a furrier or tanners put in place.

dirge has been a ghost town for too long.

The Dirge Council is working on these matters... or has been until the Prince disappeared before we could get to have the Royal Engineer leave the Palace and come to Dirge.

Something that the Dirge Council has noticed about Dirge. We noticed it a while ago, not sure why I didn't post sooner, laziness I suppose.

Dirge is neither indoors, nor outdoors. Thieves and Rangers who spend too much time in Dirge lose their bonuses. Could we get this fixed to indoors please?

It is high time Forkbeard and his outrageous prices for ale be run out of the clan, specially when he refused to lower prices during the Siege of Stone Clan. He charges almost 5 silver for a lousy average ale, compared to Baerholts reasonable 35 coppers. Wot a huge stinkin rip off. And, how about gettin the Brodger remodelled? Still the same old lame furnishings. I mean, the brodger has huge potential, everyone knows dwarves love to guzzle and they love to gather in Stone Clan, but they avoid the brodger like the plague because of the stinkin incredulously high prices, and the boring, lame furnishings. Shoot, with even a little effort, I bet the big dwarf meetings could be switched from the chamber of light to the brodger, specially since the book is no longer needing protection. I hate Forkbeard and all he stands for!

Amen. Makes you wonder how Baearholdt's hasn't driven him out of business long ago. They got good stuff down there too. Glad i got me trusty keg.

Ya know, Bubb, dwarf meetings were originally held in the Brodger (though we mostly brought our own stuff) before the Book showed up and all that. Those old meeting were more like parties than meetings. Never really understood why we moved. I mean the book was unguarded (by PCs) most of time anyway. As if us all being in there for one hour a week meant anything.

Forkbeard is no friend of the clan! It's time we shave his beard and kick him out! He didn't even have the courtesy of extending us a line of credit while we were under seige. I say we give him one week to get out. If he ain't out by the end of the next Militia meeting, then I say we do the moving for him!

Ive noticed alot of places in the realms, including Kaerna and Dirge DONT count as cities, meaning a thief doesnt receive their bonus in here and a ranger does.

Odd logic, can we have this corrected? Also look at the cemetary with dark spirits and other such areas...

Kaerna isn't a city...its a tiny little village. I always assumed the thief bonus was a "in the hustle and bustle" type thing. Dirge isn't much of a city, but I can see your argument there. It IS weird that its an either/or thing, because I think there are some places that are real grey areas.

Cities are defined as a place were society exists. The tunnels under theren dont have shops in em, but they are man made so are considered cities. Only 'natural' places (still 90%+ of the realm) is considred nature. Kaerna, even a small village, and dirge-which is pretty big for non main cities, should give a thief bonus. Outposts, Graveyards, Mines, etc, all should give thief their bonuses.

I do agree there are some grey areas though (outside west gate, a mountain temple, jungle ruins).

Brave Dwarves of the Stone Clan and Defenders of the secret books as well......:Salutes and bows in deep respect:::

A few people and I remembered the threat of the accursed Lord Sorrow and his villains, remembering too well, that they are still not defeated, only retreated to gasp for air, to gain new strength for their next attacks towards the most important magical place of the entire realm. A few people and I want to make sure, that the sacrifice of Farn Emdarson and his brave group shall never be forgotten and because of that we had decided to form a special group, calling us after those fearless Mages, 'The Silent Guardians'. We are still young, but we will not give up to research, to protect, to defend down to our very last favor dedicated to Everild and each other god and goddess. We will not allow foul villains like Sorrow and each other to come that close to that place again, endangering the seal to break. What we ask for, humble and in all politeness, is your advice and friendly support, in discussions about the mystery of this place but too to help our unity, whenever there might be again a danger for this place. Please help us, most of us are still quite young, but our hearts are full of courage and without any fear to lose there even our very last favor, that there might be never a danger for that place, especially that place again.

For the honor of Farn Emdarson the Brave and his groupe, may their sacrifice never be forgotten

Karmina Burana, daughter of Caldor the Cleric and Isendre the Empath, dedicating her life from now on to follow their path to become a 'Silent Guardian'

Dirge should give theves bonuses. I am a supporter of that town. I have never considered dirge a natural area. It is more of a main stream town. It has a bank, a vault place, weapons shop, town hall, and few other things. Dirge is a city and should be treated like one not like a natural area. I might not be a theif but i think it should give them bonuses.

Only 'natural' places (still 90%+ of the realm) is considred nature. Kaerna, even a small village, and dirge-which is pretty big for non main cities, should give a thief bonus. Outposts, Graveyards, Mines, etc, all should give thief their bonuses.

I have to disagree. If I build a house in the woods, it's still the woods. I think Kaerna is more of a trade outpost/resting place. Dirge should definitely be considered town, but smaller places like El Bains, Fayrin's Rest, and Kaerna should still be considered wilderness.

Gotta agree with Chrisp-1. Don't take one GM's stand on one particular area and use that to insist on game-wide terrain changes. I don't think terrain is as well defined as it should be. Makes it tough on the GM's involved in these types of decisions and makes it far more nebulous and subjective than it should be.

A) Gotta disagree here. Kaerna has an Inn, shops, etc. Its a community. Thieves and bandits plagues the small cities in the wild wild west. Nextly, the man made tunnels beneath Theren count as a city, and I dont even think they have half da stuff that kaerna has in those tunnels. Im a big supporter of society-wilderness areas, where both thieves and rangers get a bonus, but as it is MOST of the realm is concedered wilderness, even places that are places of society.

B) Today I went into the east side of Kaerna, and guess what? Not a town, couldnt use a few thief abilities that are town only. Didnt seem to be able to use my bonus either, yet, people can be fined and caught here. Thats just injury to insult, a thief dont get to use town abilities in a town but can get fined if they are thiefly....

I strongly urge some GM to go over all da towns in da realms and correct this. Nextly please look into making dual bonus areas.

Please could the GM tell me if this will be changed?

DiSilveron is a somewhat older area in the game. Some of the older areas don't have quite the detail some of the newer ones do. If you come across something that you believe would add to an older area, especially in Zoluren province (since that's the one I oversee and I'm the one telling y'all to do this :D), please use BUG =in the room you're commenting upon= to let me know if there's a problem, something missing, or you have an idea about the room. That doesn't guarantee I'll implement your idea -- but it's the best way for me to see your idea since I don't read everywhere on the boards.

My dearest friends,
We all feel the loss of a great leader and friend. Mordiazi has been with us a time, and now as any good wood elf eventually does, he is returning home for time of self exploration and reflection. This my friends, while it feels like a tragic loss, is a gift to you all. I am sure you can nae immagine this now, but Mordiazi seeks to allow us all to explore new strengths and seek out new gifts so that when he returns he can see the true glory he invisioned for this council so long ago.
Mordiazi, confided in me a fear. He was scared that the council had come to a point that his departure could end the workwearedoing here, were it untimely. Thus, it is my belief that he has timed this departure in such a way as to watch us grow, froma distance... so that were something unspeakable to happen after his return, we could continue his work. Given his forsite in this matter, we cannot now afford to allow his fear to be realized.
In the next months, it is our duty to ourselfs and to Mordiazi to see this council thrive -- to seek out new dreams, new gifts and to share them with others for the glory of our citizens and our heritage. We are not done here. We will not give up. We will go on. We will thrive.

Are there any plans in the near future to rebuild or start to rebuild Dirge? I think it has been flat for long enough. Like how many years has the town been flat now. Some construction is long over due for that town. The only people that seem to be trying to get it rebuilt are Dirge council. The city screams for help. It has been way too neglected. Most of the shops are not even open. Also it needs to give bonuses to teefs due to the fact in is a city it has a gate marking the beginning of the city. But will there be any work done in the near near future?

Come see one of the most versatile and prolific bards I know... a founding member of the Tavern Troupe and composer of their theme song.. Rhaury!!

Tomorrow, Saturday June 30th, at the Arthe Hollow Inn in Arthe Dale, at 11 pm eastern.

The Arthe Dale concerts are a good way to support the arts in Elanthia, and encourage fellow Bards. Drinks are available, good company, and a place to relax and take a break from hunting. All you have to bring is yourself.. and maybe a friend and tips for the Bard!!

So come see Rhaury!! Saturday tomorrow night, June 30th at 11 pm eastern.

Recently a no fighting zone was added to the rocky hunting area near kaerna village. I was wondering why it was added. I'm also wondering wether its a no steal zone or not. I cant think of any IC reason for there to be a safe zone in rockies. Only reason I can think of at all is that lots of whiners cried and complained about getting stunning poison and then falling down and getting killed. There is stunning poison for a reason, and its in one specific area if you didn't want to risk getting poisoned then you should stay out of it. Also there is already a place where rockies dont go near the stunning poison its just not used much. Whoever created the safe zone please do away with it if there is no IC reason for it. Thanks

If you think there's a problem with a room, that it's suddenly safe or you can't steal but you believe you SHOULD be able to... the best quickest way to get it looked at and resolved is to stand in THAT room and use the BUG command to describe what you think is wrong. Don't just type BUG and nothing else, cause I'll just look at it, think "Huh? One corona too many?" and go along on my merry way :)

but you want an example of a few bugged room--I have bugged it numerous times.

The wood-troll area beyond the door with the "web" on it is non steal.

When you hide and try, you get the message you have to be unhide, and when you are out in the open you get the message you have to be more stealthy to steal <which is the standard message that you have to be hidden when out of town..

This area has been buggy like this since after the Web fest was held in those rooms. WHEN will it be fixed? its been, like, 4 years now...and counting...

Alrighty, so there I was trying to think of things to do when I remembered the target in Arthe Dale, at which I've spent a bit of time in the past, fooling around and firing my various bows. On this occasion I decided I might fling a dagger or two at it to check my aim, and was most disappointed to discover that no matter how I tried to do it I couldn't throw any kind of light thrown weapon at it. If there's any way this could be made possable I'd be quite grateful, thanks.

I'm afraid the target ranges only work for ranged weapons, not for thrown. There are assorted technical reasons for this, the main one being that if I delve into combat deeply enough to make this work with thrown weapons, people will start thinking I understand it -- a definite fate worse than death for a fluffy GM like myself. :)

Hiya Danalae, thanks a lot for the quick and honest reply. It doesn't bother me that it won't be happening, can't miss something you never had to begin with. :) Maybe you could pass along the suggestion to someone who could make something that could accommodate thrown weapons though? Or even just tell me who I could send a suggestion to to get at least some attention, even if it's not going to happen.

Was in a mood to explore and so checked out the reach. Was devoid of critters and places to train climbing as far as I could tell. Might some tough critters be reintroduced to this underused area? Warklins are currently to tough for me and Im interested in something that trains weapons lower then they do. Something on the order of slai screamers or aden'f would be a nice fit. The dead pit seemed like a natural for some type of undead critter but couldnt find anything to do in that room. Hope someone breaths some new life into this area soon, seems a shame to waste such a large area on a few slai scouts.

Rys, Not sure if this still happens or not, but a few months ago, a group of hunters went into the Reach to hunt scouts. They were doing fine, when out of the blue, in came a S'lai Screamer to defend the scouts!

You might want to try 'provoking' a few of the scouts to see if their big sisters will come in to bully you around...

Oh yeah, believe me, there are still screamers in there. I got ambushed by six of 'em one time when I was just in there to look around. Needless to say, I vacated the area at high speed.

I can confirm that, as my Tog was passing through Sorrow's Reach one day in his quest to find a better bed, as he attempted to cross the little creek/stream/whatever in the area, out of the blue he was screamed at and pulverized by a trio of S'lai screamers (he was in a happy-go-lucky mood and had left his armor and weapons in his vault that morning). Needless to say, I've made certain not to linger about in that area the few times I've had to pass through since.

What is this? Is it a new shop? New area? Either way, I looked around Arthe Dale and didn't see anything resembling this name. Anyone know what this is?

Basically, it's where a lot of the merchants were set up last week, including Halfling only and Rakash only merchants. Place is still open, there is a backyard, a picnic/fair grounds, and a greenhouse. Located on the westerly side of Berry Knolls. Look for the gate.

The merchants are no longer there, sounds like you missed them. Good news is they may show up again, but probably not at Bungles' anytime soon.

Hello,

I am highly enamored of the fishing system - and was hoping beyond hope that the little pond in Kaerna's housing section would be made a little fishing hole. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to even contain water since when I try to cast my pole it says I have to have water to fish in.

[Village Pond, The Old Jetty] Jutting out from a marshy section of the pond shore, an elderly jetty hovers over the water. The wobbly, uneven surface of the walkway, and the occasional gap where one plank has fallen away completely, conspire to make an unplanned trip into the dark waters a distinct likelihood. Bits of old bait and scraps of fishing line have attached themselves determinedly to splinters in the ancient wood. You also see the pond shore. Obvious paths: none.

As you can see, it implies fishing - see the scraps of fishing line and old bait? I have some strange desire to sit out here and fish. I love this little village and think it would enhance the neighborhood.

Oh...and while I'm thinking about it. Could our little bakery table offer some different treats? I love the sticky buns, but I wouldn't mind some other treats...a constant diet of sticky buns is making it hard for me to get off the ground. :-p

Anyway, I am hopeful on the fishing. :-)

Tearase, owner of a cute little cottage in Kaerna and happy fisher-elf.

I'm sure this has been posted before, but I thought I'd just at least agree with it... It'd be great for a new version of leucs that are tougher... maybe with defense right in line with guardians and offense a little tougher? Anyway it'd make it great for us older rangers who still wanna stay around the crossing area.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!

We need bigger, badder leucros.

Hey, we needed bigger gargs too, and you did a mahvelous job with them marble gargs that worked with Sorrow during the war... but then they went away. <wails>

Give'em their own hunting ground! Or better yet, expand the Garg turf near the gondola over that ledge/ridge way west, and stick'em there!

But... back to the point. You guys have totally redone the Deep Leucro turf (talk about HACK n' slash), but if anything, there's fewer dogs in there now than there used to be. (a.k.a. nobody ever... EVER... goes in there anymore... it's just too boring).

Now that's just ripe for some added spice... the Gargantuan Silver Leucro, say.

Since they've downtweaked what critters without armor/weapons can teach you, we need this big ol' guy down there more than ever.

Bring on da BIG guns! Err, dogs.

Greetings everybody,
I probably should have caught this when I first started playing DR all those eons ago but after watching Lord of the Rings at the theatre recently and comparing the obvious similiarities inbetween the two places. I have to ask why not add hunting areas deep within stone clan now that the sentinels no longer are functional and present it under the premise that since the Sentinels no longer function, now there are goblins and other dark things creeping into the dark places and making it their home. Perhaps have the thing that is made of shadows and fire be death spirits or a new critter if they don't quite fit the description of what is shown in the book and movie.

There aren't monsters creepin' all over the place 'cause there are Dwarves living there. Despite the destruction of the sentinels, Stone Clan is still an active Dwarven community.

Now the similarity between the old 'puzzle' to gain entrance to Stone Clan and that to enter Moria is rather coincidental, eh?

If a hunting area <besides the s'lai scouts, and cavebear/beisswurm areas that are nearby> were added on the premise that the sentinels aren't there--that hunting area would not be allowed to exist in plat--because the sentinels are still there in plat. And usually when hunting areas are added, they are added to both versions of the game, although some of the higher end areas may be inactive due to zero population.

Okies, first them Powers That Be relatively-recently made the Deep Leucro area so overgrown, you have to hack your way through it...

Now, them same Powers That Be tweaked the outer leucro area so you have to search to find both the Path by the road and the Spot.

Nice touch-ups, both. Question is, is there still any plans to put bigger dogs into the Deep Leucro area? Otherwise, it's just taking up server space. Nobody goes in there anymore. The gen. rate is truly uninspiring.

How about putting a new trader outpost out that way. Replace the one in the inn. Do something more in a trader style. They could have a general Bar/Restraunt for other travelers. Maybe a small garden in a courtyard. Of course the clerk and such. But put something more for traders and a nice bit for others too.
